Autonomous driving fascinates me as a user. I often ponder how it would feel taking a ride without sitting in the driver’s seat, slamming the brake pedal, or having passengers grab roof handles whenever they sense the slightest danger. But the idea turns out to be a big no when it comes to my mom. She doubts my driving skills; how can she trust a machine? It’s not only my mom’s fear though; most people are anxious to welcome a big change. The latest poll to confirm this deep distrust comes from Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE), a coalition of industry players and nonprofits aimed at improving the public’s understanding of autonomous vehicles (AVs).
