Selecting the right architecture and understanding the operating scenario is significant to create a product that is really optimized for performance, power, price and reliability. Still, many customer doing the performance analysis and architecture selection as a guess work, numerical analysis in spreadsheets or based on the system selected for the previous projects. Current approaches are traditional in which they decide on the system where the complete engineering of the design is done and proportionally increasing the cost of the project. As the systems are growing more complex, requirements becoming more demanding and the product design cycles tightening due to massive competitive landscape, we are positioning ourselves with the Software VisualSim.
In one of our customer scenario who works for major defense project, they happen to identify the problem only at the implementation phase as their system configuration was not accurate. So, they end up in extending the time frame of their project which resulted in a major loss.
At Mirabilis Design, we are providing modelling and simulation software for architecture exploration of electronic systems and semiconductors. Using the product, VisualSim Architect, designers can evaluate the performance, functionality and power consumption of the proposed system. Examples of system designed with VisualSim include Software Defined Radio, Radars, Communication equipment, trackers, jammers, aero/automotive networks, avionics and navigation systems.
VisualSim is a graphical and hierarchical modelling environment, where the user can construct models of the proposed system using pre-built parameterized library. The user can then change parameters, configuration and topologies to run simulation. The pre-set reports are generated and the user can analyze to make the architecture decision. Examples of decisions can include hardware sizing, behavior in the event of a fault, bottleneck detection, workload use case analysis, and refining control and arbitration algorithm. The advantage of VisualSim is that model construction is extremely fast with built-in checks for error detection, large library of modelling components, pre-defined reports and a completely graphical environment.
The major advantages our customers have found using VisualSim for System Level Design and Analysis are:
- Acceleration of time to results: VisualSim is very easy to learn and start using it. The basic training is given to the customers and they started using it to refer the hundreds of application templates already given. Because of ease of use and reuse maximization, the model construction time has been reduced a lot compared to the results finalized using C, C++, System C.
- Optimal configuration and sizing of hardware: Based on the Block diagram given for a particular project/requirement, using VisualSim, with the wide library set which includes processors, memories, and various bus interconnects, we can prepare the architecture model. Further various simulations can be done onto the parameters for every block and finalise the optimal system configuration.
- Conduct performance analysis and power analysis of the subsystem or complete system.
- Hardware-Software partitioning to meet the requirements.
- Identify possible bottlenecks and system behaviour under crucial timing critical requirements.
Customer can use VisualSim in the initial phase of design and finalize upon the system architecture. Further, by doing various simulations on the parameters for every block, they can finalise the most Power efficient and Performance wise the best system. Within a few days/months itself, they can finalize the system architecture depending upon the complexity.
